Ancient sources report that Sidon suffered structural damage during a powerful earthquake that struck the Phoenician coast. According to Pseudo Joshua the Stylite, refugees from Tyre and Sidon reported that parts of their cities collapsed on the same day that the nearby city of Ptolemais (Acre) was flattened. A later chronicle by Pseudo-Dionysius of Tell-Mahre similarly records that a “mighty earthquake” overturned Ptolemais (Acre) as well as Tyre and Sidon.
