Turkish/British Earthquake(s)
Korzhenkov and Mazor (2014) report that
Tsafrir et al. (1988) date the destruction
of a rebuilt
Byzantine bathhouse to
Turkish (i.e.,
Ottoman) times.
However, no clear reference to the dating
or destruction of this rebuilt bathhouse
appears in
Tsafrir et al. (1988), where it is only
mentioned as having been examined in
earlier studies of the site.
Korzhenkov and Mazor (2014) also report
that they "have traced the impact of an
earthquake at Turkish-British
constructions" in the
Bedouin village
of
Khalasa, built on or adjacent to the
ruins of ancient
Haluza. They note that
"the deformations cover a large area"
and suggest that "the earthquake which
affected the Khalasa village would have
also left traces in buildings of the
same age at Rehovot-ba-Negev".
They further note that the
well-house
constructed during the
British Mandate period was also significantly destroyed.
