Thomas et al. (2007) outlined the chronology, noting that “the fault rupture was capped by a later occupation dating to the mid to late eighth century.” They concluded that “this dates Earthquake III between the mid seventh to mid, or possibly late, eighth century.”

Because Earthquake IV was dated to the 7th and possibly 8th century and is thought to correspond to one of the 7th century events—such as the Sign of the Prophet Quake (613–624 CE), Sword in the Sky Quake (634 CE), or the Jordan Valley Quake (659/660 CE)—it follows that Earthquake III was most likely associated with one of the mid-eighth century CE earthquakes.
