Deformation Layer 2 at Nahal Darga occurs in stratigraphic unit 6 and is dated by Enzel et al. (2000) to ca. 6050 BCE (ca. 8000 yr B.P.). The deformed bed is 15–20 cm thick and consists of very fine sand. It is described as the only directly fault-related deformation among the deformed beds, and also as the one with the most limited distribution. The principal deformation features are convoluted laminations and one load cast. The deformation appears to have formed in water-saturated, near-shore fan-delta sediment. Because Enzel et al. (2000) describe this layer as directly associated with a minor fault, it differs from most of the other deformed beds, which are more widely distributed and are not directly tied to exposed fault splays. The feature is consistent with earthquake-induced liquefaction and soft-sediment deformation, but with a stronger local structural component than most of the other deformed layers. Dating is based on radiocarbon dating and stratigraphic correlation within the fan-delta sequence; Bayesian modeling was not used in the age determinations.
