Deformation Layer 11 at Nahal Darga occurs near the top of the Holocene sequence in unit 15 and is dated and correlated by Enzel et al. (2000) to the 1927 CE Jericho earthquake. The deformed bed is ~0-35 cm thick and consists of fine sand and coarse silt deposited in a near-shore fan-delta environment. The deformed layer is described as convoluted with small pseudo dikes. The deformation occurred when the sediment was at or very near the surface and the structures are interpreted as due to earthquake-induced liquefaction. Dating is based on radiocarbon dating and stratigraphic correlation within the fan-delta sequence; Bayesian modeling was not used in the age determinations.
