Event X
Nemer and Meghraoui (2006)
Nemer and Meghraoui (2006) report that
Event X in the Jarmaq trench, which intersects the
Roum fault, cuts unit d and
occurred before the deposition of unit c.
Event X is
constrained using the nearest dated layers
above (unit c) and below (unit e), indicating
that it occurred between 8555–7603 BCE and
2920–2879 BCE. It postdates Event W, which is
similarly constrained within this range.
Unit c was
radiocarbon dated by one
bulk soil sample (JAR-2-B).
Unit e was also radiocarbon dated by one bulk soil sample (JAR-13-B).
Event X formed a
fault scarp against which the post-seismic
colluvial wedge j accumulated. This makes
it the clearest example in the trench of rupture
with a significant
normal component, while still occurring
within a fault zone that also shows
strike-slip shear fabric.
