Lu et al. (2020) identified an in situ folded layer in the ICDP 5017-1 Core from the Dead Sea. A calibrated radiocarbon-derived age of 1908–1996 CE was reported (-2 ± 44 yrs BP). The thickness of the layer is not specified. Lu et al. (2020) estimate a local PGA of 0.13 g, corresponding to a local MMI intensity of VI½ (6.5), and interpret the deformation as attributable to an earthquake which struck the Dead Sea in 1956 CE.
