Event E2 earthquake from Demirkopru Trench 2 Open this page in a new tab

Altunel et al. (2009) dated Event E2 in Demirköprü Trench 2 to before 1424 CE, primarily on the basis of two radiocarbon samples recovered immediately above the E2 event horizon and approximately 25 cm below the E1 horizon. This stratigraphic position led them to infer that Event E2 occurred shortly prior to 1424 CE. They further proposed that the most likely historical correlate for Event E2 is the 1408 Shugr-Bekas earthquake.
