6th century CE Earthquake
In reviewing the later occupational history of the Temple
of the Winged Lions and its surrounding quarters,
Jones (2021) drew attention to the absence of securely
dated 6th-century material at both the temple and the
nearby residential complex in Area I. As summarized from
Erickson-Gini and Tuttle (2017:144-145), this lack of
material may not indicate survival into the later 6th
century, but rather suggests that the area was already
abandoned before a subsequent late-6th-century
destructive event occurred.
