Cytryn-Silverman (2015:209) suggests that the Umayyad mosque at Tiberias was likely abandoned after partial destruction caused by the 1068 CE earthquakes. The structure was not cleared of collapse debris, and the surviving northern section was later reoccupied during the Crusader–Ayyubid period. Reuse occurred within the collapsed remains, with debris left in place and interior spaces adapted at different levels connected by steps.
