Iron Age IIA and later Earthquake(s)
Ellenblum et al. (2015:6) identified
Iron Age IIA remains (ca. 980–830 BCE) in
the southern part of the site, located
south of and partly beneath the
Hellenistic ruins.
Preliminary dating was based on
architectural style and
pottery typology.
Ellenblum et al. (2015:6) estimate that
the Iron Age IIA wall is displaced 8 m
across the fault. Of this total, 6 m of
offset occurred after the early Hellenistic
period, leaving 2 m of displacement in an
“unknown number of events during the first
millennium BCE prior to the
'Early Hellenistic' ~142 BCE
earthquake.”
