Ellenblum et al. (2015:6) identified Iron Age IIA remains (ca. 980–830 BCE) in the southern part of the site, located south of and partly beneath the Hellenistic ruins. Preliminary dating was based on architectural style and pottery typology. Ellenblum et al. (2015:6) estimate that the Iron Age IIA wall is displaced 8 m across the fault. Of this total, 6 m of offset occurred after the early Hellenistic period, leaving 2 m of displacement in an “unknown number of events during the first millennium BCE prior to the 'Early Hellenistic' ~142 BCE earthquake.”
