Phase VIII Earthquake - Middle Bronze IIB Open site page in a new tab

In Plot IIIC of Area III at Tabaqat Fahl (Pella), Walmsley et al. (1993:178–180) note that mudbrick and stone debris from Walls 41 and 47 suggest that Phase VIII was rendered uninhabitable through earthquake activity. East–west Wall 47 was preserved to a height of approximately 50 cm, and "most of the eastern metre of the wall had collapsed to the south in antiquity." Wall 41, identified as "the main city wall," runs north–south.

Raphael and Agnon (2018:774) note, however, that the excavators expressed some reservations (S. Bourke, pers. comm.) regarding an earthquake explanation and report a date of "ca. 1700 BCE or slightly earlier."
