Commemoratorium de Casis Dei, composed in 808 CE, records that the Nea Church, originally commissioned by Justinian (r. 527–565), had suffered earthquake damage, though the text gives no specific date for the event. One of the 749 CE Sabbatical Year earthquakes is a plausible candidate. However, Zimni-Gitler in Lichtenberger and Raja (2025: 175–176) notes that despite this textual reference, no corresponding archaeological evidence has been found.
