Dismantled Lime-Kiln Earthquake (?) Open site page in a new tab
Excavations at the Givʿati parking lot revealed that a prosperous Byzantine domestic quarter was converted into an industrial zone with a lime-kiln at the start of the Umayyad period. During the early Abbasid period, in the eighth century CE, the lime-kiln was dismantled and covered, leaving only scattered installations and wall remains. Although the site underwent major changes during this time, the excavators reported no archaeological traces of earthquake damage, suggesting that the transformations may have been due to human activity rather than seismic destruction.
