Steiner (2022) notes that the Iron II houses on the southeastern hill of Jerusalem [JW: the “City of David”], excavated by Kenyon and Shiloh, were destroyed during the Babylonian conquest of 586 BCE. In spite of the extensive devastation, no indications of seismic damage have been identified, and the destruction is consistently attributed to military action.
