Boyer in Lichtenberger and Raja (2025:Table 2.2) reports medium-reliability archaeoseismic evidence for 8th-century CE seismic damage at the Temple Complex of Artemis, following M. C. Bitti in Parapetti et al. (1986:191–192) and Parapetti (1989c:10). M. C. Bitti in Parapetti et al. (1986:191–192) dated a short phase of occupation in the area of the Temple Stairway to the first half of the 8th century CE, a period brought to an end by a mid-8th-century earthquake. Parapetti (1989c:10) uncovered a single Umayyad-period occupation level sealed by the “collapse of the vaults of the original Roman structures,” which she interpreted as damage caused by a mid-8th-century earthquake.
