Stratum IIA Earthquake (?) Open site page in a new tab

Magness (2005) reports that Moshe Dothan interpreted the excavation evidence to suggest that the synagogue of Stratum IIA at Hammath Tiberias was destroyed in the 419 CE Monaxius and Plinta Quake. Magness, however, dates the construction of Stratum IIA to the late fourth or early fifth century CE and indicates that the building remained in use until the third quarter of the fifth century CE or later, writing that it was "occupied until the 3rd quarter of 5th century or later." She does not posit that it was destroyed by an earthquake.
