End of Stratum IIb Destruction Layer Open site page in a new tab

Onn and Weksler-Bdolah (2016) report that all buildings at the site were destroyed at the end of Stratum IIb, most likely by the strong earthquake that struck the region in 1033/1034 CE, part of the 11th century CE Palestine Quakes. Excavation evidence shows that some structures were later rebuilt, while others remained abandoned. In Area A, for example, the buildings were never restored and the columns that collapsed during the earthquake were found lying toppled across the courtyard floors of the Stratum IIb complex.
