Stratum IVB Earthquake ? - Transition Iron I - Iron II Open site page in a new tab
Alanne (2017:44–45) reports that Stratum IVB experienced local destruction and burning in Areas B, M, T, and Y. Traces of conflagration and complete vessels were found in the burnt debris of L129 and L161 (Area B). A section of the building (Strata V–IVB) in Area M also appears to have suffered from fire, while some walls had simply collapsed. They added that excavator David Ilan attributes this destruction to an earthquake. Raphael and Agnon (2018) interpreted this as an earthquake between 1200 and 1000 BCE in Iron I, noting that "walls dating to 1050-950 BCE collapsed en masse, with an earthquake suspected (Area B, Phase B8, Stratum IVB)". They also noted that "few signs of fire were noted ( Ilan 1999: 56)."
