Introduction
Introduction

Ablasta, now known as Elbistan, has been settled since prehistoric times. An Anatolian hierogltph dating to the 12th century BCE was found in the village of Karahüyük, 9 km. to the NW. In the mid 10th century CE, Armenian immigrants settled in Ablasta. Starting in 1277 CE, Ablasta became a Mamluk possession. Dulkadirids controlled the region for 178 years until Ablasta became part of the Ottoman Empire.
