al-Ṭabarī
Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Jarīr ibn Yazīd al-Ṭabarī (Arabic: أبو جعفر محمد بن جرير بن يزيد الطبري), also known as
al-Tabari was born in
Persia ~20 km. south of the Caspian Sea in 839 CE, traveled widely, and died in Baghdad in 923 CE. His historical chronicle
History of the Prophets and Kings (Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk) is often referred to as the History of al-Tabari (Tarikh al-Tabari) and was written in Arabic
in ~915 CE. Depending on the edition it can contain up to 40 volumes.
