Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, a mystic, theologian, poet, traveler, and voluminous writer on a variety of subjects, was born in Damascus in 1641 CE and was the leading figure in the religious and literary life of Syria in his time (W.A.S. Khalidi in Encyclopedia of Islam v. 1, 1991:60). His travels included trips to Istanbul, Beqaa in Lebanon, Jerusalem, Hebron, Egypt, Mecca, and Tripoli (W.A.S. Khalidi in Encyclopedia of Islam v. 1, 1991:60). His writings, which number between 200 and 250, fall into three main categories: sufism, poetry, and travels (W.A.S. Khalidi in Encyclopedia of Islam v. 1, 1991:60). He died in Damascus in 1731 CE.
