A letter found in the Cairo Geniza contains an eye-witness account of an earthquake experienced in Ramla
in December 1033 CE. Although Mann (1920) identified the letter writer as Salomon ben Yehuda,
Gil (1992:399) identified the letter writer as
Salomon ben Semah of Ramla and the recipient as, apparently,
Ephraim ben Shemaria in
Fustat. Salomon ben Zemah was a scribe at the Palestinian Talmudical Academy in Ramla.
