During his time as a monk of Le Bec Robert of Torigni] was `an avid reader and collector of religious and profane books', or so he described himself in a reference to the year 1139 CE(Vitalis and Van Houts, 1992:lxxvii-xci). His Chronicle
covers the period from 385 AD to 1186 and derives from that of Sigebert of Gembloux, with additions and amplifications for the history of Anglo-Norman regions in the period 1100-1186(Guidoboni and Comastri, 2005).
