Matthew of Edessa Sources
Matthew's Chronicle can be divided into three parts with an additional continuation
- Part I describes events between 952 and 1051 CE and was based on sources.
- Part II describes events between 1051 and 1101 CE and relied on eyewitnesses from the time when Matthew was alive.
- Part III describes events between 1101 and 1136 CE and is based on Matthew's own observations along with other sources.
- A continuation of the Chronicle covers events up to 1162 CE and was written by someone known as Gregory the Priest.
