Gibb (1932:11) noted that although Ibn al-Adim (aka Kemal ad-Din) occasionally quotes Ibn al-Qalanisi verbatim, he based his narrative on independent local sources. Gibb (1932:11 note 2) writes that Kemal ad-Din's contemporary authority for the history of the early Crusades was probably The History of the Franks who came forth to the Land of Islam" (Siratu'l-Ifranji'l-Kharijina'ila biladi'l-'islami) of Hamdan b.
