Photios I (Greek: Φώτιος, Phōtios; c. 810/820 – 6 February 893) was the the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople from 858 to 867 CE and from 877 to 886 CE (wikipedia). He was the author of a number of books - the most famous being Biblioteca - composed of 279 reviews of books he had read (wikipedia). As the originals of many of these books have been lost Biblioteca preserves much ancient literature including an an epitome of Philostorgius' 'Church History'.
