Megas Chronographos
A 10th century manuscript (Codex Vaticanus Graecus 194.r) of
Chronicon Paschale contains excerpts of another text which is
labeled as being from the Great Chronographer (Megas Chronographos). The excerpts document natural and political disasters from the
5th to 8th centuries (
Neville, 2018:85).
Neville (2018:85) notes that although this text was originally thought to have been composed in the 8th century CE and
served as source material for
Theophanes and Nicephorus, further research has "shown fairly conclusively that it is the other way around". The anonymous work
of Megas Chronographos is now thought to be a compilation of the mid 9th century CE.
