George al-Makīn (Jirjis ibn al-ʿAmīd) wrote about the earthquake in two separate passages, giving a description very similar to that of Severus Ibn al‑Muqaffaʿ. An earthquake struck at night and was experienced in Egypt on the 21st of Tuba. It was said to be cosmic — affecting all regions, out to the Far East. Depending on the version, either one hundred or six hundred cities were overturned, and many people and animals perished. Numerous ships were also reported to have been engulfed at sea. It is not possible to determine the exact year of the earthquake from al-Makīn’s account.
