Hymn 51 by Romanos Melodos includes a vague poetic reference to a “storm of earthquakes,” which Grosdidier de Matons (1981) suggests may refer both to the 551 CE Beirut Quake and the earthquake that struck Constantinople in 554 CE. Gatier (1983), however, interpreted the passage as referring instead to the Fire in the Sky Quake that struck Akko (Ptolemais) in 502 CE.
