Although this earthquake may be alluded to by several sources, two accounts describe the event explicitly. Dio Cassius states that Paphos suffered damage from an earthquake around 15 BCE, while Eusebius records that between 18 and 16 BCE an earthquake ruined many parts of Cyprus. Inscriptions discovered at Palaepaphos commemorating construction activity dated to “immediately or soon after 15 BC,” according to Ambraseys (2009), are likely related to this earthquake.
