Although this earthquake may be alluded to by several
sources, two accounts describe the event explicitly.
Dio Cassius
states that Paphos suffered damage from an earthquake
around 15 BCE, while
Eusebius
records that between 18 and 16 BCE an earthquake ruined
many parts of Cyprus. Inscriptions discovered at
Palaepaphos commemorating construction activity dated
to “immediately or soon after 15 BC,” according to
Ambraseys (2009),
are likely related to this earthquake.
