Abu'l-Fida provided two brief accounts of what appears to be
the same earthquake, placing it under
A.H. 597 and
A.H. 600. Both dates appear to be incorrect. When combined, the
two accounts describe damage to the walls of Tyre, the collapse of many
cities, and an earthquake felt across Egypt, Syria, the coastal regions,
Mesopotamia, Asia Minor, Sicily, Cyprus, Iraq, and other distant areas.
