Sibt ibn al-Jawzi reports that there was a terrible earthquake in Mesopotamia (Jazira) during which the greater part of the ramparts of Edessa (Rufa) and Harran were overturned, along with a great number of houses. He also records that the Euphrates overflowed and ruined one hundred houses at Balis and swept away half of the citadel, flooding Samosata (Samsat) as well as other places. A specific date was not supplied in the excerpt cited by Ambraseys (2009). In another section of his work (Mirʾāt), Kronk (1999, vol. 1: 193–195) notes that Sibt ibn al-Jawzi mentions a comet that appeared in the skies in 1110 CE.
