Sibt ibn al-Jawzi
reports that there was a
terrible earthquake in Mesopotamia
(Jazira)
during which
the greater part of the ramparts of
Edessa (Rufa) and
Harran were overturned, along
with a great number of houses
. He also records that
the Euphrates overflowed and ruined one hundred houses at
Balis and swept away half of
the citadel, flooding
Samosata (Samsat) as well as
other places
.
A specific date was not supplied in the excerpt cited by
Ambraseys (2009).
In another section of his work (
Mirʾāt),
Kronk (1999, vol. 1: 193–195)
notes that Sibt ibn al-Jawzi mentions a comet that appeared in
the skies in 1110 CE.
