In an excerpt supplied by Ambraseys (2009), Abu Shama wrote that Nur ad-Din repaired the damage to the mosques which was caused by the earthquakes or by other causes. Neither a date nor specific location was given, and the damage appears to refer to earthquake(s) that occurred prior to the repairs. Nur ad-Din ruled the Syrian province (Shām) of the Seljuk Empire from 1146 to 1174 CE and fought against the armies of the Second Crusade (1147–1150 CE).
